Firstly, and most importantly, I just went to see HP & the Prisoner of Azkaban. (*Beware of spoilers!*) I thought this movie far surpassed the first two and am entirely pleased with the change in director. The new guy playing Dumbledore didn't throw me at all, which I had thought it would; in fact I think he's doing a much better job. :) Perhaps my brain just edited it out, but in the movies, Draco seems to be a helluva lot more of a sissy boy. Not that I'm complaining. I likes, I likes a lot. This movie managed to keep just as much importance on the plot and the actual story going on and still focus on the interaction/relationship between the characters and their emotions. Sirius...I don't even know what to say; he did such a *perfect* job!!! Remus, while not as I had ever pictured him (that moustache thing just looked ridiculous!) also was quite impressive. There was not enough Snape! Or Percy! Or Oliver! (was he even *in* the movie? I thought i saw him once, but i could have imagined it....) While it seemed that more than ever from the books was left out of the movie version, I didn't miss it until I was long out of the theater. What they did include was so great, I just can't bring myself to really complain much. Another note, *what* was up with Crookshanks? Where is the evil pussycat from hell that this cat is supposed to be? It just...sat there...for pretty much the whole movie. It makes Ron seem pretty ridiculous for hating Crookshanks when all the cat ever does is sit in Hermoine's arms and get petted. I'm still not entirely certain they didn't use a *stuffed* cat! That was, strangely enough, my main complaint about the movie. Last but not least, my favorite scene in the entire movie... (drumroll, please? *dadadadadaddadadadadadadadadadadadada* Thank you.) ...The absolute *best* part was the scene in the Shrieking Shack after Lupin comes in, when he hugs Black. I swear they *kissed*! I saw it! They hugged and it looked like their lips brushed against each other, they were sure positioned correctly for it anyway, then the camera changed to a different angle. (Which, BTW, what do you suppose they were up to while the camera was taking in the others' reactions?) I was like, 'Holy shit! It looks like they just kissed!' so when the shot switched back to them I made sure to pay *extra* attention (if I had been looking any closer, my eyeballs would have popped out ) and it looked exactly like Remus and Sirius brushed lips and then pulled away from each other! I couldn't believe it! Whether that was how it really went down or just a trick of the light and my overactive imagination, it still pleases me greatly. Okay, I lied, not done yet, another nitpick... In the scene where Harry and Prof. Lupin are talking about Lily, Remus really makes it sounds as though he had some kind of unrequited love for Harry's mom. Maybe it's my memory that's at fault, but I don't remember that scene playing out like that! Where the hell did that come from? And to counteract that...another thing I really loved was the way they did the whole passing of time/changing of seasons thing. It was obvious, so you weren't left going, 'Wait, isn't is still the same day?', but at the same time it was subtle and beautiful. Ooh, and another thing I loved was when Draco passed Harry the note in class, the whole origami crane thing and its coolness aside, the drawing was cute! I know it was mean of him, but damnit it was cute! Another nitpick to balance this out, I may have been glossing a bit earlier...there was one scene that I noticed wasn't present and missed right away... When Draco dresses up like a dementor during a Quidditch match to throw Harry off his game. I suppose that they made up for it, plotwise, but I really wanted to see that! I guess that, the way the special effects were done, it would have been impossible for Draco to make a believable dementor through the use of nothing more than a scary cloak, but still! And one final thing that I loved about the movie before I move on to other things... The scene where Hermoine is holding her wand to Draco's throat and he's nearly in *tears* from fear. That was just...*shivers*...inappropriately sexy and I loved every second of it! It made me want to keep him dangling on that edge of fear just a *little* longer. Yes, I am aware that this was long and ramble-y and basically pointless, but I had to get the thoughts off my brain. Okay, moving on now...
What else? What else? Oh yeah, still my birthday! (for a few more minutes anyway) Had a good day overall, went out to eat, saw HP (squee!), got some earrings and link-charms, and stuffed frogs (yay!) from my mommy, got a froggy necklace (which is adorable, by the way) and frog earring for my cartilage piercing from
ktprincesswitch. I will probably also get something from my sis, Aileen, when she gets home (any day now, really) b/c she kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday. Plus I got a cherry pie and an apple pie instead of cake, which is just awesome! Hooray for pie! That is all. Talk at you later.
