Memes!

I am bored. I keep working on my Pete/Patrick fic and then I go "wait, i have no idea where this is going" and stop again. *sigh*

Anyhow, memes!

[livejournal.com profile] lai_lore tagged me on this one, so:

"Each player of this game starts off with ten weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged must write in a blog of their own ten weird things or habits or little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you must choose six people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks!"

Fair warning, though, I am not very good at thinking up facts about myself.

1. Little known fact: I was born at home. Intentionally. With, like, a midwife and stuff. I actually find this pretty damn cool.
2. I prefer the right side of the bed.
3. I would much rather perch, lounge, or flop onto furniture than just sit. People and the floor also often rank higher than furniture in my preference.
4. I hate root beer. But sometimes I have root beer floats anyway, even though too much ice cream makes me ill.
5. I hate olives. I eat olives on a fairly regular basis. They are disgusting but incredibly compelling and I have no idea why.
6. When I am at home, I do not usually sit down to eat. I will hold my plate and wander around in the dining room as I eat. Or, occasionally I will sit, but hold my plate rather than put it on the table. This is partially adaptive due to the fact that the table tends to be messy and hard to eat at, but I still prefer it even when I could eat like a normal person.
7. I refused to wear blue jeans until I was 11. I have barely worn anything else since.
8. I find men holding babies ridiculously attractive for no particular reason. Shirtless men and diaper-clad babies exacerbate the problem. I blame estrogen for this. Pete Wentz must never ever be allowed to procreate. My ovaries would explode.
9. The first slash pairing I ever went looking for fic for was Giles/Ethan (BtVS). That was almost 9 years ago. I will still read any Giles/Ethan fic in the world. There is not enough of that pairing.
10. I wear size 10 shoes. I like my feet anyway.

So, yeah. There ya go. I don't really do tagging people and stuff, but if you guys wanna do it that would be shiny. *snugs*

Next!
I stole this one from [livejournal.com profile] omphale23... because it was there.

1. stuff wot'll always usually get me to read a fic
authors I know I like, pairings I madly adore, rare pairings, pegging, genderfuck, kidfic, mpreg, good crossovers, angst, hurt/comfort, non-con, AUs, terribly bad ideas for fic that end up beautifully pulled off, sex toys, PWP, first times, tentacles (bonus for first time PWPs with tentacles!), humor, threesomes, adorableness

2. stuff wot'll always usually make me pass on a fic
BDSM, unhappy or ambiguous endings, deathfic, historical AUs, annoying whiny characters, WIPs especially if the author has no idea when/if it will end, boys that act like girls when they're not supposed to, or you know any other bad characterization/bad writing

3. stuff I be meh about
body-switching, wingfic, crackfic of varieties not otherwise specified, gen, het, cross-dressing, pre-slash, femmeslash

I'm sure there are other things I should have on all three sections, but that's all I can think of at the moment, so there you go.

I'm going to wander away now, possibly to lunch.

Pegging! I completely forgot about pegging! *hangs head in fangrrl shame*

And why don't people like bdsm fics? This is the second time I've seen it, and now I'm curious.

Personally, BDSM is just not really my kink. Or at least, not what is generally labeled at BDSM.

I can read fic where people get tied up and sometimes I like that, & fic where people like to get whipped or enjoy pain or whatever & I'm fine with that, but for some reason dominant/submissive roles in a consensual relationship just kinda squick me. It especially bugs me when, like, the dominant knows what the submissive "really wants" better than they do. Oh, and when the dom's main role seems to be to embarrass the sub sexually. I don't care if that really is what the sub wants and they get off on it, I just don't like it. That could just be my embarrassment squick talking, there, though.

Honestly, though, I've read a few hardcore bdsm fics that I really liked and found really hot, but 90% of the time I just find them really distasteful or squicky.

The funny part is, I am perfectly okay with BDSM if it's a bad guy doing it as part of torture or something. I like my hurt/comfort pretty damn rough.

Huh. So it's really the D/s that you don't like. Which...that makes sense for people who like slash, right? Because in some ways slash is interesting because it equalizes those power relationships that are so complicated and painful in het, and so taking slash and making it D/s...breaks them again? Something like that?

[identity profile] kaciagemini.livejournal.com 2007-06-19 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I really think it is that I just can't enjoy a relationship where a power disequity is just... accepted. That probably does also have something to do with why I moved on to reading mostly just slash instead of het. Also, gay sex is really hot. :)

Yay for picking apart my squicks and making them all logical and stuff! It bothers me when I can't really pin down why I don't like something.
