Warped 08: A bunch of stuff in a post. Now I can backread!
Skip 220, you are not my friend.
Warped was pretty damn good on Thursday and I only got minorly roasted in the sun. Apparently I suck at putting sunscreen on myself without missing spots. It's alright, though, I wasn't using that collarbone for much anyway.
Cobra was awesome, as per usual, though I kind of want to make sad faces at Billiam and Travie because they decided to sleep through the set and seeing a 3/4 complete Cobra Starship Supergroup was pretty much the reason I refused to miss Warped Tour. :( Boys.
We arrived right when Cobra was about to start and we spent the first five minutes of their set trying to find the stage. That was the only time we had that problem all day though, so I can't feel too terrible about it.
We decided to skip all the signings and such because there were too many bands we wanted to see to be standing around in lines all day.
Walked around and looked at merch and booths for an hour or so. Watched We The Kings, who were still awesome. I don't really know why I love them so much, but I do. Barrier! Not too many kicks in the head from crowd-surfers.
Wandered around and grabbed some food, then settled in to the amphitheatre to eat. Caught a few minutes of some who-knows band and a few minutes of Set Your Goals (DNW!).
Headed over to Gym Class Heroes' stage. Walked almost right up to the barrier a few minutes before the set started, though I was pretty far off to the right. I still had a really great view. And then DeJesus fell on my head, which was kind of entertaining because then he just wandered through the crowd and crawled out on the other side, I think. I figured that was going to be the most interesting part of the set, but then Travis came down to kneel on the barrier and sing kind of directly in front of me. \o/ They played Cookie Jar and Peace Sign and they were quite awesome. They also played part of Taxi Driver and part of Papercuts and... way too many awesome things to keep track of, really. Travie was redeemed for sleeping in! Obviously he needed the rest in order to be so awesome. Also? Him rocking out on a Rock Band guitar was pretty much the funniest thing ever. I approve of Travie and all that he chooses to be!
Watched a few minutes of Angels and Airwaves' set just because they were there and so I could say I'd seen all of Blink 182 in concert even if it wasn't together. I didn't really feel called to stay for the rest of the set.
Chilled out in the amphitheatre for a while. Watched part of some random band's set in which they did a, like, hardcore cover of Mad World. Weird.
Bugged out to The Academy's stage to wait for them to start. Walked up 10 or 15 minutes early to pretty much the exact same spot as I'd had for Gym Class Heroes. Strange.
Billiam put on a good show, so I guess the extra rest did him good, at least. ;_; He was very flirty with his band. Very equal opportunity flirty, actually. Travie came out for part of a song and just sat in the back and banged on one of Butcher's drums. \o/ It was pretty adorable, and then he kissed Butcher on the head before he left which was even more adorable. Later on, Travis-from-We-The-Kings came out and sang with Billiam for part of a song (About A Girl, maybe? I don't remember. Also? Multiple Travises, wow.) because they're evidently going on tour together this fall. I approve of this. I was very very pleased with TAI's set because they played a lot of my favorite songs (Checkmarks & Classifieds are probably my absolute favorites and they played both \o/) and I like About A Girl and the Summer Hair, etc song better now that I've heard them live. Also, at one point, Sisky walked over toward the drums, blew raspberries at the Butcher, and then smiled and walked away. IDK! It was awesome, though, and made the Butcher laugh. \o/
Crowd surfers probably kicked me in the head during that set and GCH's because that's what happens when you're in the front, but I don't really remember, probably because it was pretty negligible compared to later.
I headed over to watch a few minutes of Charlotte Sometimes because I like her, but the set had already started and I guess we missed How I Could Just Kill A Man. :( I did get to watch her have imaginary sex with her keyboard player though, which is always nice.
Headed back to the stage I was just at so I could watch Reel Big Fish. REEL BIG FISH! !\o/! They played a lot of stuff I knew, which is pretty impressive because I only actually know like a dozen songs and 3 or 4 of those are covers. They were made of unspeakable amounts of awesome and also hilarious. They opened with Sell Out, which I remembered in the car ride up used to be like my favorite song in the universe. Plus they played She Has A Girlfriend Now and I Want Your Girlfriend To Be My Girlfriend and Beer and Take On Me. They also played some stuff off their new cd, which I should probably pick up because it sounded good.
After they finished, I headed over to watch a few minutes of Relient K just to see if they would play anything I cared about. They played Who I Am Hates Who I've Been, which is probably my lesser favorite among the, like, three songs I know, but it was still pretty nifty to see in concert. And it's not like I actually thought I was going to hear them play College Kids because other people probably do not have the unhealthy amounts of love for that song that I do.
In order to watch Reel Big Fish, I had to skip All Time Low's set entirely, which was a bit sad, but I did just watch them a few weeks ago on their headlining Shortest Tour Ever Tour (lol) from barrier. While I would have liked to see them again, it was more important to me to see people I hadn't seen before.
My lil sis went over for part of their set and crowd surfed for the first time. It was apparently pretty awesome, so \o/ for that.
After the part of Relient K's set that I watched I headed back to the stage where Motion City Soundtrack was going to be playing. I got there about 20 minutes before they were due to start and wandered up to about 15 people or so back from the barrier. It was definitely the hottest, sweatiest, and rowdiest crowd I'd been in all day, which sort of made sense since it was nearly the last show of the day. Once the music started, the half-naked sweaty dudes I was near started shoving and pushing forward for all they were worth, and between that and the entire crowd going pretty much crazy with movement, I went pretty quickly from 15 people back to 2nd row. I decided that was a good place to be so I stuck with it through a fuck of a lot of pushing, shoving, squishing, and a constant stream of crowdsurfers going over head. I've never had so many people launched at my head in my life. But it was a damn good show atmosphere because everyone was really excited to be there. \o/ I'm incapable of remembering what songs they actually played because I love every MCS song pretty equally.
We did catch a few minutes of Story of the Year's set on our way toward the exit because they were the last ones playing. They looked decent but I was pretty well ready to go.
Overall, A+++++ day!
You can't really tell that Travis is rocking out on a Rock Band guitar here, but that's what's going on.

Hi, Travis! It's very hard to take pictures of someone then they're kneeling on the barrier next to you. Luckily, his leg was an excellent place to put a hand for balance when I leaned back to try and get a good shot.

When did Billiam lose the knee-kerchief thing? I guess I missed that.

Bill & Travis-from-We-The-Kings.

The crowd was trying very hard to keep Bill when he came out to the middle for a minute.

My only shot of Motion City. Dude looks like he hasn't shaved since Honda Civic. I suspect Spencer was a bad influence. D:

Bonus!
This is what I do with my lack-of-life. IDK why.

Today, because we were in Indiana, Jen and I went and looked at the apartment we want to rent when we move up there and it's 95% less shitty than I was expecting, so we put down a deposit and we're supposed to sign the lease and move in on the 19th. \o/ Place to live during Grad school!
I also saw the new Mummy movie at the theater today and it was less crappy than I expected but the new wife-actress makes me very ;_;
This concert/shenanigans experience pwns all others previous in many ways but not least of them is the fact that now I get a weekend to recover! I never get recovery time! \o/
